Life Decisions

I am in the midst of making another major life decision. The questions of "Where do I go from here?" and "How soon do I make a decision?" have been on my mind. Currently, I work as an ESL teacher in Japan and try to get to my art when I can. All the possible choices have been fired down to this: Do I spend one more year of work in Japan? or Do I quit work next year, then move to Mexico and do my art full time?
I have become comfortable with my life in Japan. The main reason for moving is to be closer to family. Moving to Mexico rather than my hometown in California would enable me to be close to family and work on my art full-time.

I have spent the last two days browsing blogs and have run across two very life-changing blogs.
The first is http://brooksbest.blogspot.com/ This is a blog about a very personal struggle with terminal cancer. I, myself, lost my Father to cancer this year in March. Life changed from that point.

I could really relate to Brook's statement:

"discovering all our 'issues' is ... very much like peeling through the layers of an onion, we discover a little deeper layer of hidden feelings."
There is so much to uncover when making a change.

The second is

Roz Savage set off from the U.S. west coast August 2007 and is hoping to be the first woman to row solo across the Pacific Ocean. She writes on her website:
“Little by little I began to realign my life, to put myself on track for the obituary I really wanted.”

This really struck me. Having choices and acting on them ... being able to shape my life... even to the end.

bird watching and staying home for the summer

Usually summer means several bicycle-camping trips, but with COVID19 still around, we are staying home. In the meantime, I have been pretty productive with my 100 Self Portraits project. Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
