Happy Monday and Shadow Shot Sunday

In the year 2000, the Japanese government installed the "Happy Monday" system and moved several National Holidays to Monday. The second Monday in October is Health and Sports Day (in Japanese 体育の日). We are encouraged to enjoy sports and a healthy, active lifetyle. This holiday was originally on October 10th to commemorate the anniversary of the opening ceremony of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, but was moved to Monday under the Happy Monday System.

My husband and I rarely have the same days off, but today we had the day-off together on account of the holiday. We took a long walk along the river that runs through the city. The river has all sorts of wildlife. We saw Egrets, birds, ducks, Koi fish, Perigrine Falcons, dragonflies. I got several shadow shots that I will post over the next few weeks. I also managed to drop my glasses and step on them. Now I am blind as a Bat. The bright side is that we had a good laugh about it. I have to sit really close to the computer to see it, even with the font set to x-large.

I like the sound of your Happy Monday System! So sweet that you were able to enjoy a lovely day with your husband. Not so sweet about the glasses though. At least you can laugh about it :)

Beautiful shadow shot! Hello cute duckie! :)

I love ducky shots. They're so happy aren't they? Perfect choice for 'Happy Monday' :)
I love the sound of the Happy Monday System!! Wish we could get our country to adopt it! 'Course we can't get them to do much we want these days!!
Sounds like you had a wonderful day off...well except for the glasses part! Lovey photo of the duck!
We just love the pattern that the water is making - it is so interesting. The duck shadow is quite fun at the bottom then!
Isn't it nice when you have the same day off to enjoy together? Those come few and far between sometimes! Sorry about your luck with your glasses - if we could, we would make our font bigger on this end!! Blind as a bat is not a good place to be Juana!
Have a great week!!

Thanks everyone for stopping by. I took my glasses in to get repaired today. So one more day of squinting and putting my face up close to everything to see it. LoL!

As I waited for my dial-up to download the photo, I enjoyed the beauty of the rippling waters and delighted at the end when the waterfowl appeared in frame. Beautiful shot.

Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
