Door to Door Sales People

"Entrance is Prohibited"

In Japan, Door to Door Sales are still common. The Door to Door Sales people are always so kind and patient. They are out there rain or shine, so I try to be kind. I usually just nod and answer with a polite refusal. If someone comes to my door selling newspaper subscriptions, it's easy to say "No". I am not a newspaper reader. Would I like to join their group? Another easy "No". Would I like to sign up for their service? Let me just say, "No".

When it comes to food sales reps though, I can't form that same one syllable word. Instead, my pupils dilate as I peruse their basket of goodies or the menu in hand. And without hesitation, I have committed to a weekly delivery of food. It wouldn't be so bad, except that, it means I have to be home at the decided time. Also, it puts a dent in my budget because I just end up over-spending. I wish I could say "No Thank You" as easily as I can write it. A couple of months ago, I ended the food delivery account with Yakult.

Today, as I was finishing up my recent Print listing for my Gallery Juana.etsy shop, the doorbell rang. Oh, I was excited because I thought it might be the mailman with my latest etsy purchase. My next thought was, egad, I look a mess! I opened the door to find the Yakult sales rep. She had a free drink for me and several fliers with up-coming sales. I was thinking I really don't have the money to do this. Oh, but these delicious drinks are on sale! So the delivery is set for next week and the following week. I am hopeless.

funny! :-)

i can recall door to door salespeople when i was growing up. they sold food, encyclopedias, gadgets. although my relatives found it annoying (well sometimes...like you they didn't pass up on the food!), i thought it was fascinating. don't see 'em as much anymore.
The yakult sales rep also came to my door (in Singapore), but I had to refuse because the vitagen sales rep got to me months earlier lol
Oh dear,you are addicted.
There is something so comforting about food..I have to admit, I would have been on their list too..
Missed you..

I didn't realise that Yakult had gone international until recently.

Food is definitely comforting.

thanks everyone for dropping by.
OMG! I'm so glad we don't have that kind of service here...the food part...I would be broke and so overweight I wouldn't be able to leave my house! I would have a very hard time saying no to the delivered meals as well!!

The 'Yakult Lady' goes to my husband's work and he brings it home. I have sometimes wondered whether or not I should become a Yakult Lady myself, it might be nice part-time job. I don't mind the door-to-doorers, I always felt kind of sorry for the NHK guy, he always looked so hassled, and especially for the rookie insurance reps that get sent around in the height of summer.

Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
