Vending Machines in Japan Part 2 and Shadow Shot Sunday

Thursday was a warm breezy day. I had originally intended to walk for about 30 minutes, but I ended up walking for 2 hours! Vending machines for drinks are on every corner. Thanks goodness too, because I needed water midway through my walk. I dumped my empty water bottle in the recycle bin at the next vending machine I came upon.

Part I of Vending Machines in Japan talked about the homemade crepe vending machine. I still haven't tried it. That previous post had links to other sites with photos. I finally got some photos of my own on my walk the other day. Of course, the odd vending machines are the most interesting. I found two on my walk, one was tame and the other was for family planning:)

First up the tame one: Did you forget to buy batteries? Hop over to your neighborhood vending machine and get the size you need. This machine looked aged. I could hardly see through its window.

Next up, feeling a bit in the mood but want to be safe? No drugstore in sight? No worries, just down the street (next to the window with Winnie the Pooh) is a "Rony Wrinkle" vending machine for your convenience. The machine does not give change, so be sure to have the exact change. The shadows are of people walking by as I was trying to get a good photo. So that is how this all fits into Shadow Shot Sunday:) For more photos of shadows, please visit Hey Harriet's blog.

Rony Wrinkle??? That's too much! I visited Japan years ago and I was constantly amazed they way English was used, very, um, creatively. The coolest vending machine for me was one on Hokkaido that dispensed huge cooked scallops. They were delicious.

I like your 'Rony Wrinkle' shadow shot! I'm imagine you would have received some weird looks from people while taking photos of that vending machine! I've heard of some crazy types of vending machines in Japan. Ours are quite boring over here. Mainly coca cola and snack foods. Happy walking! I can walk for hours too! It's fun :)

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments.

PJ, The Hokkaido scallop vending machine is a new one for me!

Sweet Repose, Japan is fascinating for me too.

Richie, I think those might be empty flower pots.

Harriet, I wonder what those shadowed people were thinking:)

Summer kitchen, Hurray! Glad you like my new background.

Sylvia, that makes two of us with a soft spot.
Good shadows shots..interesting too..Isn't it amazing how we see things so different, since shadow shot Sunday?
About the snow...I have to tell you, this winter almost sunk me..
Sure, we have snow, but we were getting 6 to 12 inches at a time..
What I was asking, where is the global warming? Say, what they want, it was a snowy/cold winter and I am glad to see the brown grass..

Super photos!
I have never seen batteries in a vending machine before....wow!
I bet people would be too embarrassed to ask for change from the other one....

Crepes and batteries in vending machines? What great ideas! :)

If the vending machine crepes are anything like the quality of coffee in U.S. vending machines, I say "no, thanks!"

Batteries, on the other hand, are always needed for the camera!

Happy SSS

lol. that's fascinating. why the weird vending machines? not so many convience stores?

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments.

Chris, that's a good question! It is uncanny how many vending machines and convenience stores there are. At one city corner, you are guaranteed to find two of each, vending machine and convenience store!

Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
