Hanging the Futon out to Air

Sunny days have been far and few this summer. The rainy season has claimed every month since April. Hurray for the sun coming out Today!

On sunny days you can see futons hanging on balconies to air out. On my way to work, I caught sight of these hanging futons and their subtle shadows. They are attached by strong clips to prevent them from dropping or being taken away in a gust of wind.

Fascinating-the differences in everyday life between different countries. We have slept on futons for long periods of time and the poor things never got any air-now maybe if we had had a balcony and a couple of those clips...

It's good to sleep on air-freshened bedding - here's hoping you have some more sun and a lot less rain.
This post is one of the reasons I love this meme...I get to visit people all over the world! Thank you for the trip!
Now that is what I call a good picture. How neat is that? I bet they are strong clips..can't you see it now..gust of wind and raining futon..
Happy SSS.

Great photo - I love the contrast in colors, textures and shapes between the futons, dish, and balcony. ;-) and the clips!

Very interesting to see these futons hanging. I have been to Japan but didn't see futons outside like this...isn't it fun to see what others see in their photo images!

Love the fabrics on the futons, but I love all Japanese art...just think how wonderful they will smell with a fresh airing...sleep tight!
How interesting! We love to wash our sheets and hang them out to dry in the fresh air...nothing like it - so, why not futons!! Fun shadows this week!

Those clips must be very strong. Futons are quite heavy! Well mine is anyway. I love this image! I wish I had a balcony so I could start that trend over here. Probably wouldn't be very popular over here though due to not so many people owning futons... ;D

Wow - interesting! I have a futon also, but I have never dragged it out to air - I don't have those clips either:-) the covers look nice too!

What a great image -- and so interesting. I think it must be healthy to air out a futon -- it sounds fresher than just vacuuming the mattress...

That's too funny. I have a futon and have never put it out in the sun!
Did you know that humans lose about 1 liter of water a day? During the day and while sleeping our clothing and beds/ futons collect dead skin and absorb the moisture we lose by sweating. In order to keep clothing and bedding clean, it is important to air out such items out regularly - particularly futons, blankets and pillows. Hanging futons and bedding out in the sun is a very effective way to get rid of built up moisture, dust and to prevent mould.

Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
