Tatami Mats and my Siamese Cat

My internet time is sporadic now that I don't have the internet in the house. I go to Sendai Station every other day, find a bench and use MobilePoint BB paid Wifi access. It costs $10 (1000 yen) for two weeks. I pay for the wifi service at a convenience store. Today I shared the bench with senior travellers, drunk men, and a Homeless person.

Our move is coming along well. We found out that our 10 year old fridge is not recycable and has to be trashed. If noone wants a perfectly good fridge, then we will have to pay a licensed waste hauler 60 USD to haul it away. I have met many wonderful people from the U.S, Canada, England, Ghana, Argentina, Indonesia, China, Mongolia, and Korea who have taken us up on our offer of free furniture and appliances.

I am going to miss having Tatami mats in my studio. The feeling, color and scent of rice straw is comforting. My cat never scratches on the tatami, but she loves to lay on it to bathe herself. I caught this photo of her last summer.

Sweet Sputnik...wonder what she's dreaming about? :o) Glad all is going well with the move...Moves, especially international moves, are such huge undertakings... Sounds like your down to "bare bones" at home... Enjoy you last bit of time in Japan. :o) ((HUGS))

I always love it when you share photos of your adorable Sputnik! I'm sorry Mr Linky had closed before you had a chance to add your link. Rr Linky is a sneaky little rascal ;)

All the best with the move. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to move everything overseas! I've never done that and find a simple move within my own city hard enough to cope with!

*"your" cat.*
oh how sweet....
Tatami mat is the traditional straw matting that is used on the floor in Japanese homes. Tatami evolved over a long period, first beginning as a thin easily folded straw mat on which people sat or slept.

Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
