sketchbook project 2011

I recently joined this project hosted by The Brooklyn Art Library.  My project theme is "Adhere to Me."

I've been debating whether or not to take apart the moleskin and rebind it with thicker paper.    Trumpetvine Travels has an excellent tutorial for that purpose.

There's also a Sketchbook Project 2011 group on Facebook.

Have you ever used a moleskin for your art work or journals?  This is my first time.

I love seeing your name and topic on that official looking UPC sticker! I hope you will post some of your pages as you work on them. Adhere to me, hmmm, that will be an interesting topic. Do you have ideas yet?

I have to admit I'm excited about having my own barcode associated with my name. I have some ideas for my theme already. I'm still incubating them.

I will look forward to seeing your journal progress. I followed another artist on her journey with her journal and it was a delight. I thought about joining this venture but I have too many time constraints this year, maybe next time.

Marlene, smart move to keep your schedule manageable. I'm starting to feel a good spur in my side with the two projects I've got going, but I think it's what I need now.

I took part in this project last year-and really enjoyed it, though the discipline of having to finish an art project to a deadline was a bit tricky for me. I liked having to stick to a theme though as it is different to what I normally do. My theme was 'outside of myself'-if you were interested there is a link in my sidebar to a separate blog I did for it.
Good luck with your project and I look forward to seeing your work if you share it here.

I have a moleskin notebook (bought at our local bookstore) with heavy paper meant for water media and such. It's thicker than the ones they send out, though, and bound. I don't know if the thinner ones come with the thicker paper. I think when I do mine (next year-- this year I was involved in a different group art project), I'll simply paste thicker paper into the moleskin and work on that. It'll look like an overstuffed chair when I'm done, because I also like to do collage.

Hi Dayle,

I have one of the moleskins with the heavier paper as well. And as you pointed out, that is not the type that art house uses for these sketchbook projects.

Even with the thinner pages, there are options like the one you mentioned of adhering a thicker page to the thin page.

bird watching and staying home for the summer

Usually summer means several bicycle-camping trips, but with COVID19 still around, we are staying home. In the meantime, I have been pretty productive with my 100 Self Portraits project. Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
