Tangerine Shadows

After non-stop days of much needed rain for our drought-stricken State, the clouds cleared to views of snow-capped mountains and blue skies for Christmas Eve.

I took this photo while we were in the back yard picking the citrus fruit:  oranges, grapefruit, tangerines and lemons.  I remember the time when my Father was putting in these saplings ages ago.  He had to break through hardpan for each tree.  His garden is a living memory of him.

After a late afternoon bike ride, we all were home to make the annual Tamales.  In my family, we stay up past midnight making the tamales and end with eating the first cooked batch.  My favorites are cheese with jalapenos and cheese with beans and jalapenos.   Once it turns midnight, we exchange our presents.      I certainly enjoyed sleeping in this morning.    I hope everyone is having a lovely Holiday.

Those tangerines look lovely! How special to have all that fruit growing in the back yard! And I was already drooling over your tangerines and then you made it worse by mentioning tamales! Yummo! It sounds like a beautiful tradition. Happy holidays and enjoy the Boxing Day shopping with your mum. Careful! those Boxing Day sales can get dangerous. I'm not talking about the damage to credit cards but the die-hard Boxing Day shoppers. People do mad things all for a bargain. Take care amongst the crazy crowds! :) ver

Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
