Lucha Libre, Medusa and Sunday Sketches

medusa study 1
I'm working on a new collage series.   I drew the same face everyday for about a week.  The first days were very abstract.  With each day, the face became less abstract.  I started this series after I had finished the canvases for my recent exhibition.  My creativity was pretty much spent, so I think that is why my portraits were abstract and geometric.  My mind and hand were not ready to move on yet.

I completed the drawing at left on the second day.  It reminds me of the Lucha Libre masks worn by Mexican wrestlers.

Below was the last drawing and I felt I had a better idea of what I want to do with this series.  These portraits will be part of a new collage series.

You know you're right, the top one does resemble the masks they wear. :) Cool idea of drawing them as a collage.

Interesting! I've never tried drawing the same subject repeatedly, other than sketching my dogs. I'll be watching for the collage.

The Medusa is WONDERFUL, Juana...I like all the sharp angles and almost geometry-like way you're dealing with the anatomy of a face. Very impressive and fun! :o) Happy Days ((HUGS))

How very cool. I love the contrast of the cross-hatched face with the lines of the hair... it would be very interesting to see the entire series together.

Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
