embracing couple, pen abstract art

anniversary I
Anniversary I, 6  x 6, pen illustration and collage
This pen abstract illustration came together from two separate sketches: The first doodle was with  the rectangles and circles, and the cellular-like doodle was done on a different day.

As I was looking at the first doodle, it reminded me of a skeleton with the shoulder joints, ribs, and hip joints.  I decided that I wanted to link two skeletal figures by one heart.  Drawing a red heart shape with a line between them was too direct.  I wanted this to remain abstract.

I was also reminded of the skeletal remains of a couple  who had been buried together.  After 5000 years, their bodies had remained in a loving embrace.

I titled this Anniversary I:
One, I drew this illustration on my Wedding Anniversary.
Two, the central shapes reminded me of skeletal figures.
and Three, the two figures are linked by one heart.

I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend.

I love that you kept the abstraction, Juana! I would have been too tempted to do and keep the heart, you know. ;o) But I love how you did this. And the bravery of combining the two sketches to create something uniquely its own. WOW! And I really like the story behind the couple buried together...romance beyond the grave. Happy Anniversary! :o) Happy Weekend, too ((HUGS))

Love the story behind the picture Juana! I remember when the skeletons were found ~ and now I'm wondering if anything else was ever found out about them (have to search that!) Love the movement of the drawing (and that you used the circles from another drawing you had done), so fitting for an anniversary :)

Juana this is really abstract for a practical person like me! I think I see the heart, joints and ribs though! I'm going to have to appreciate this one just from the pattern and circles!

love the precision of this abstraction. And one of the favourite parts is the dots of Japanese script paper!

I think it is very beautiful. Intereting that it has so much meaning as well.
