Pata Floja

Cormorant

Much has happened in the last two months. Some of you know that I had moved home April 2010 to take care of my Mom full-time. I am grateful that I had that opportunity. She was always there for me when I was growing up, and I wanted to be there for her in return. She is now out of pain and at peace. Her love, strength and inspiration will always be with me.

I have never been one to stay home for very long, so I knew I would be traveling again. My Mom's closest cousin understood this need of mine and even had a name for it: Pata Floja. Which I guess is one way of saying a loose foot or Foot Loose.

My husband and I drove all the way from Central California to Seattle, Washington and found a rental house on Whidbey Island.  We crossed from mainland onto the island by ferry.   This feels symbolic of where I need to be now: neither here nor there, surrounded by water ... rebirth.

It's absolutely quiet and I spend the day looking out the window at Possession Sound and watching the ferries and birds go by. The walks on the shoreline are meditative and the rains comfort me. This is where I will work out this transition in my life.

What a beautiful place to be... to just BE. :o) I've been thinking of you Juana, and was going to write you--and then you visit my blog, so wonderful to see you. I glad you are finding small comforts during this time of change. Change can be good and refreshing. Enjoy this place you're in--physically & mentally. Do share more of this island retreat when you can. Be well... open to joy. ((HUGS)) P.S. Many thanks for your kind thoughts on the new art blog I'm sharing with hubby. We've been wanting a big joint project for a while, so will be interesting to see where this takes us!

Kristin, Thank you for you kind words. Each day in this peaceful place gives me new strength to navigate this transition.

Tracy, I hope to post more pics of this lovely environment. I'm trying to give myself to the just "being" part.

Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
