sept 4 sketch

Hurray, my hand and wrist are nearly better so I did lots of drawing this week! I've been drawing the same figure everyday and trying to work out the angles and shading. Earlier this week, after doing a non-dominant hand sketch, I drew the figure with my dominant hand (image above). She was headless for most of the week, but today I finally drew her with a face and hair that I like. Although in today's sketch everything is off, but I am liking the pose and will switch to another medium this week.

I'm showing you my earlier sketch, as it's still my favorite. It's been awhile since I last drew nudes. It will take some warming up again.

southcoastcrawler graciously let me know about the au naturel call for submissions. The entry deadline is in November. I'm hoping to finish a new piece to submit for review. I haven't decided yet on what the nude pose will be.

Historically, Egon Schiele and Michaelangelo inspire me. Their styles are completely different.
What interests you most about the human figure? Do you have any favorite figure artists?

Glad to hear your hand and wrist are feeling better. Not being able to draw must have been frustrating as hell. Anyway great sketch--that's not a simple pose to capture or to make appear graceful, and yet you did!

Do you do this with a live model, a picture or just from your mind?
Beautifully done!
Your sketches are amazing. It's like detail but no detail. :)

So glad you're doing better, Juana! And WONDERFUL sketch--this has a great dynamic about it, and the angle/sense of moment too. Good luck with your submission for November--go for it! When we lived in the city my husband & I went to croquis drawing classes. Nothing like that where we are now, so I've not done nude drawing in years now. But I, too, admire the figure work of Egon Schiele & Michaelangelo. Degas & Renoir's painted appreciation of the female form can't be denied either--such elegance that's almost dream-like. Love to see your creativity, Juana. :o) Happy Days ((HUGS))

you so make me wish I could do this. I love your left-handed drawing in previous post; how much you've left to the imagination. and I like the movement and grace of the nude. happy week to you Juana.

Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
