Hours, new collage series, wip

For the last few weeks, I've been mostly drawing. I've drawn five different poses of the female figure. Out of those five, I redrew and reworked four of them.   Previously, someone asked if I work from live models.  For my current series, I've been working from photos of a live model.

Everday, I'd toss each pose round in my head, trying to envision how the pose would work as a painting. I'd go to sleep each night thinking about the poses, and ideas would come to me. I had a vague idea but nothing clearly defined. So the process of drawing and redrawing continued through this week.

Last week, I also started collecting bits of fallen life that I'd found along the trails when we were hiking. I've got pine cones, bark, moss, leaves, and fern fronds sitting on my desk.

And then it happened. Those previous ideas and all the odds and bits I'd collected on my hikes gelled together in my head, and I set to work on a "feeling".

I took out my handmade rice paper that I purchased before leaving Japan, and cut several pieces to a 9 x 12 size. Then I got out my sheet of plexiglass for monoprinting and began. I felt like the child in the sandbox building a sandcastle. Playing with purpose.

I chose "Hours" as the name for this latest series based on the Greek myth of Horae who were the personification of the seasons in nature. Hours I, shown above, is almost finished. There are some details that I want to refine on the lower half of the collage.

I'll write more about the materials I used in my next blog post. I was chasing a feeling so I only got one photo of this series as a wip.

What have you been up to this past week?

This sketch is really amazing. I really wish I had the raw talent you hold for sketching people. I also really like the leaf print/s you added as well. Thank you for sharing with us this week.

I love how you've incorporated the leaf motif with the figure...the combination of life expressed as well the pure shapes, textures and colors is very exciting! I've been playing with leaves too. And lately bought a Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plate--my new baby. ;o) Hope to share more on that soon. Great to catch up with you! I've been offline a few days having some fun, just now surfacing! :o) Happy Weekend ((HUGS))

Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
