Nude Woman with Red Towel No 2, mixed media, collage

This mini painting, an aceo, is the latest edition to The Nude Female Body with a Red Towel series.

I spent the morning drawing the image. The afternoon was spent painting the image on a previously prepared support. I really wanted to work longer on a second painting that I had started but had to stop due to a hair appointment.

I love going to the hair salon in Japan. Even though I get a simple haircut. it usually takes over an hour. First, the hair stylist sits down with me to discuss what haircut I would like and what suggestions she has. Then I am escorted to the shampoo area where I meet my "shampoo person. " This is the first highlight of my hair salon experience. I love the shampoo person. She shampoos my hair for about 10 to 15 minutes. This includes scrubbing and rinsing and more scrubbing. I start to meditate with all the scrubbing and am interupted here and there by her polite questions: The water is not too hot, is it? I'm not scrubbing too hard, am I? Do you have any spots that still need more scrubbing? I also get a head massage twice. Once the shampoo and conditioning phase is finished, the shampoo person takes me to my stylist's booth. I get another head massage but this time with some minty, cold liquid on my hair. Then I get a shoulder massage. I am so relaxed by this point. I really need to go more often!

Can you send those "hair salon workers" my way!
Really like this ACEO....!

Your salon experience sounds divine. My new stylist has me in and out in a 1/2 hour....no pampering whatsoever...sigh.

Seriously. Do they do house calls? I'm lucky if a salon person even talks to me.

I got my hair done in the States last Winter when I was visiting. It was a great cut but I missed the long shampoo and massage. Now I really appreciate getting my hair done in Japan.

Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
