monoprints and sketchbook sunday

On Thursday I took an all day workshop with Patty Pico at Northwest Art School in monoprinting. For her particular method no printing press is necessary! And clean up is with simple soap and water. I worked nonstop all day with only a break for lunch. Time flew by and only then did I realize how tired I had become. I had so much fun and learned some wonderful techniques with new materials. If you're near Whidbey Island, she's giving another workshop in November.    Below are some photos from the day.

monoprints on tissue paper

Above are some of the monoprints I did on tissue paper.   I can use these in my collage works.

Although a printing press was not necessary, I got to do a monoprint on a press.  What an incredible machine!

double rainbow and raindrops

It was pouring rain all day, but when I got home from the workshop (after an hour's drive), the rain was slowing. Above is the double rainbow that I could see from our rental house. The white specs are the raindrops that were still falling.

And above is the collage I've started with the tissue paper monoprints as the first layer.

I hope everyone had a good week.

See you at bluechair's Sketchbook Sundays.

LOVE the collage you've got in progress from your wonderful tissue paper prints, Juana! Beautiful colors and textures. Really liking the softness and texture the tissue paper prints got going. I've not been to a hands on workshop in some time, as there's not much of that locally. But taking an art e-course later in the summer--can't wait! I share a new painting today, which is fun. DAZZLING double rainbow...*swoon*...Happy Week, my friend ((HUGS)) P.S. Sooo very glad you've been enjoying the newsletter so much. :o)

Blue-eyed Siamese Cat flies to Japan

Today was filled with my art and time with Sputnik. She was bathing herself which gave me the chance to catch a photo of her. I actually adopted Sputnik as a kitten in 1998 when I was living in Mexico. She made the long trip with me to Japan on July 25, 2004. It took me about 6 months to plan the logistics of bringing her from Mexico to Japan. Since I had to fly via the U.S. on Mexicana Airlines and Korean Airlines, that meant 4 countries and two airlines would need to approve her transport. There were many details to keep track of for each country and airline. After 6 months of stressful planning, 16 hours of two airline flights and layovers, She made it to Japan safely! Korean Air allowed her to fly with me as my carry-on luggage, which was a relief for me. No worrying about whether she was scared or left at the Los Angeles airport! I didn't give her any tranquilizer to sedate her. Yet, she was quiet the entire flight and went unnoticed by other passengers. I h
